Down hill lies and up hill lies. Here are the secrets to hitting great shots from these lies.

Down Hill Lies: (Right Handed Players)

-Set body and shoulders with the slope.  This will place more weight to left foot.  The tendency for most players is to lean into the hill either at address or during the backswing causing poor contact.  Staying with the slope during the backswing and follow through is the most important element to this shot.

-Place ball just behind center of stance to help strike the ball first.

-Since the body is pitched downward toward the ground the shot will tend to come out very low.

-Use a club with more loft to match the severity of the slope. This will help get the ball up in the air.

-Plan for lower trajectory and more roll than a normal shot.

Up Hill Lies: (Right Handed Players)

-Set body and shoulders with the slope.  This will place more weight to right side.  The tendency for most players is to lean into the hill at address or during the back swing causing poor contact and a trajectory too low to carry the slope.

-Place ball in the center of stance

-Since the body is pitched up the hill the shot will tend to come out very high and not travel as far as a normal shot.

-Choose a stronger lofted club to match the severity of the slope to allow ball to reach the target.

-Plan for higher trajectory and less roll
